I have always been interested in food and health. I can remember cooking omelettes at 11 years old and asking mom to buy whole wheat bread and skim milk to try to be healthier. However, I have also spent my teenage and most of my adult years overweight, so while trying to be “healthier” I was not having much success.
When I graduated high school, I decided to go to Le Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Ottawa. I proceeded to work in several restaurants, and started a business degree at Memorial University. Then, by the age of 22 I opened a small restaurant in my hometown, St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Around this time, I noticed that my hands had some eczema on them. I would go to the doctor who would prescribe me some cortisone cream. It would clear up temporarily but it would always come back. I always found this frustrating and disheartening.
Fast forward a few years, I met and married my wonderful husband and we have 2 young children. I started to take a real interest in healthy foods to help start my children out on the best possible path. I decided to become a health coach inspiring exhausted moms to feel recharged, refreshed and re-energized.
After my oldest child was born, my eczema started getting much worse. My legs started getting eczema on them. And the eczema no longer responded to the cortisone cream.
My doctor suggested I see a dermatologist who prescribed 3 cortisone creams which made the issue worse. My hands looked like they belong to an 80 year old, and I just “didn’t feel right”. I was embarrassed that I was 29 and felt like my body was aged 40 years. In the summer I didn’t want to go out with shorts or a dress on, and didn’t even want to shake someone’s hand. I was also saddened by the fact that instead of having soft hands to cuddle my children, they were rough.
At this time I really started to try to think outside the box wondering what was going on inside me. I decided to see a naturopath who suggested that I try removing gluten and dairy from my diet to see if there would be any improvements. Within about 6 months, my skin totally cleared up and I started to feel better! I had stopped wearing dresses and shorts because of my legs, and now you would never know that there was an issue!!
I remember the moment I wore my first dress outside the house and felt confident, it was amazing! In that moment I realized that I need to help other people get these results whether they have eczema or or any other health issue that can be helped by understanding their bodies and taking action. I decided to study Natural Nutrition to learn more so I could share my knowledge with others. If I can have this kind of a breakthrough (and I know how I felt), then I can pass this along.
After my second child was born I found that I was extremely exhausted, had no energy, was moody and had typical “mommy brain” (brain fog, forgetfulness, trouble concentrating, etc.). I realized that this isn’t living and I certainly was not being the best mom I could be for my kids.
So I decided to go back to the drawing board and look at my diet, lifestyle and mindset. After making some changes I am starting to feel much happier, more energetic and more like “me”!
I want other moms to feel amazing! They need to enjoy life, not just suffer through it. There is no need for suffering, there is usually a solution. Many times food, mindset and lifestyle changes can help. My goal is to help as many moms as possible feel recharged, refreshed and re-energized just like I do!
