I don’t know about you, but I find that I am constantly bombarded with the NEWEST, LATEST and GREATEST health or weightloss fad!
Do you find this???
Do you get confused by all of the options because your sister’s-best-friend’s-cousin’s-aunt lost 100 lbs with a magic little pill/diet or got their energy back and now has awesome digestion because of a fad?
I mean don’t get me wrong, I am sure that people get results or else it wouldn’t sell. But there are a few things going on here (and really… let’s call a spade a spade.)
What happens when they go back to their normal habits?
Usually people will try a solution for a period of time, and then they will revert to their regular habits. Because that’s what they are…. habits. AND…. it’s comfortable.
But all of the work they have done will fairly quickly become undone and in fact, yo-yo changes can be even worse. It is so important to make a lifestyle change that you can stick with.
But I’m drinking celery juice, isn’t that good for me?
Celery juice seems to be one of the newest fads. Now, don’t get me wrong… celery is really good for you and some fads can have healthy properties: celery juice, lemon water, apple cider vinegar to name a few.
But, the problem is that you are tired of trying what media says you should be doing and then you get frustrated when you are putting a lot of energy in and you don’t see much of a result.
You see, we are trying this new fad, but not making other changes to clean up our diet, support our digestive system, lower our stress, increase our energy, support our brain function, etc. So, without the other changes to support our body, this one addition likely will not show many results. Plus, it might not even be something that your unique body needs!
What else is going on?
You may have tried a cookie-cutter diet or another solution as a patch or a pill and you might have lost some weight, but without addressing the real issue you still may not be healthy. You may still have digestive issues, feel like you are in a fog and have little energy. You likely also won’t be supporting your body in the long-term.
The Standard American Diet is made up of “non-foods” that our bodies just do not process effectively. Think, you wouldn’t fuel your car with an energy drink, right? Why is that? It’s because your car wouldn’t run optimally…. It isn’t what your car needs…. Well same thing for your body, you need to fuel it with what it needs.
What to do?
I like to think of what the body needs from a holistic perspective, in other words I try to think of how different aspects of the body affect each other and what all areas need in order to run optimally.
To do this, you want to eat real food full of a good variety of nutrients, reduce stress, reduce processed foods and toxins, exercise, drink lots of water, and take care of your whole body so that it can run optimally and feel awesome.
You want to realize that true change takes time. You have been doing the same thing for your whole life, give yourself the gift of time and patience to make real lasting change.
There are a lot of resources out there that can help or you can contact a professional who can point you in the right direction, and help you make sustainable changes as quickly as possible by supporting you throughout the process.
